Wait Patiently For The Lord

"I waited patiently for the Lord; He turned to me and heard my cry". Psalms 40:1

Waiting Patiently’, is not a nice word for many of us. Many times 'waiting' can be very uncomfortable. However, waiting patiently for the Lord will actually give many awesome benefits to us. Let us learn of all those benefits from King David's journey of life with the Lord.

First, waiting will lead us to have an encounter with the Lord. When King David waited patiently for the Lord, he had a personal encounter with the Lord, "He turned to me and heard my cry", Psalms 40:1b. King David’s cry or prayer was heard by God. God didn't ignore King David, but He heard his voice and the Lord attended to his needs.

Secondly, when he waited patiently for God, he was lifted from all his hardship, "He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire". Psalms 40: 2a. King David went through many challenges during his time, but the Lord always delivered him and brought him higher to excel in his journey each day.

Thirdly, the Lord also enabled King David to stand as a victor again and again even though he failed and fell a few times, "He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand". Psalms 40:2b. In other words, the Lord was so gracious to King David by strengthening him and restoring his brokenness and healed his disappointments. Without the Lord, King David can't rise up again.

Fourthly, as a fruit of waiting patiently for the Lord, King David's spirit and soul constantly was being renewed and refreshed. The joy of the Lord keeps flowing in his heart. God's peace and joy greatly strengthened his soul and heart until he could worship and praise the Lord almighty day by day, "He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God". Psalms 40: 3a.

By waiting for God, King David experienced many good things. His inner being was abundantly refreshed, his wounds were healed, his bitterness changed, he was forgiven, he was strengthened and restored, his perspective of life is back in focus when each time he faced discouragement and his spirit is in the perfect rest in the Lord.

Dearest, I would like to encourage you not to give up waiting upon the Lord. You could be at the end of the road or in a rock bottom situation right now but in Him, you have hope. Your hope in the Lord will never be disappointed. Ask God for His grace to enable you to wait patiently for Him. In due season, you will see the Lord make all things beautiful in your life. For He alone holds your future.
