"O Lord, God of heaven, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with those who love him and obey his commands." Nehemiah 1:5-6.
See the view of Nehemiah about God when he prays, "O Lord, God of heaven, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with those who love him and obey his commands." Nehemiah 1:5. Nehemiah understood and knew God, to whom he prayed. When Nehemiah says, "O Lord, God of heaven", he was actually saying something like this; "Oh God my King who is seated on a throne above anything, high and exalted". There is no other higher place than heaven itself.
Then Nehemiah continues to say, "The great and awesome God." When Nehemiah says, "The great", he is actually talking and proclaiming the great power of God and His ability to do anything. And when Nehemiah says, "Awesome God" he is actually describing the nature and the character of the ALMIGHTY, such as, loving-kindness, compassionate, gracious, patient, understanding, and generous. Before Nehemiah proceeded to His prayer item, he was reminding himself about who his God is to whom he prays. Only then did Nehemiah move into his prayer items from verses 6 to 11 in this chapter.
My friend, do you know that your view of God will affect your prayer life? If you do not know who God is and what He can do, you will always pray without knowing what He can do for you, and you will limit God's ability in many areas of your life. When you are in this situation you will always pray and ask God based on what you can do. And you will ask based on your own resources. You won't be able to expand and stretch your faith in Him.
But it will be the other way around if you have the right view of God. You will start to pray and ask based on what the ALMIGHTY can do. You will pray based on His ability and you will ask based on His resources. Heartfelt prayers like Nehemiah's can clarify any problem you may be facing. You will see God's great power manifest in your life. You must know who this God is to whom you are praying. Your correct view of God will affect your prayer life. God is always ready to reveal Himself to His children, and we as His beloved must always grab every single opportunity to know Him. Have the right view of God and let it affect your prayer life like never before.
