"The Fear Of The Lord"

"The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, turning a man from the snares of death" Proverbs 14:27

I have heard the words "Fear of the Lord" many times and every time I hear the words I used to question something like this, "How do I fear the Lord? What kind of fear is the Bible saying?" In my confusion I used to think that fear of the Lord means facing God like facing a very fierce and angry person.

One morning when I was doing Bible study, the Lord revealed to me what is all about "Fear the Lord". He brought me to Proverbs 8:13a, "To fear the Lord is to hate evil". "Fear the Lord" means "Simply hate evil". That means, honor God with your thinking; don't allow any evil thoughts to dominate your mind. Honor God with your speech; don't let any evil things such as gossip, lies, bad words etc come out from your lips. Be careful with your eyes, let what you see pleases Him. Guard your heart from jealousy and any evil desires but let Him make your heart as His temple to stay.

Dearest, "Fear the Lord" is not facing the Lord like facing a fierce or an angry person but is an attitude of respect towards God. It is about reverence, respect, love and honor towards God. This is the attitude necessary to please God and to walk with Him. Like what Paul says in Philippians 2:12, you and I should, "work out your own salvation with fear and trembling". In other words, we should honor Him in everything we do and please Him with our attitude daily. Say no to the evil things and corrupted desires of our heart but learn to walk in the path of righteousness that He has called us to walk in.

A God fearing man or woman will always end up being blessed in their walk with God. God honors those who fear Him and walk in His ways. The fear of the Lord is like a fountain of life that could refresh our soul and save us from many problems and danger, "The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, turning a man from the snares of death" Proverbs 14:2. Not only that but the blessing of being a God fearing person could manifest to your next generation as well, "He who fears the Lord has secure fortress, and for his children it will be a refuge". Proverbs 14:26. Fear the Lord and be blessed in every area of your life. Remember, Fear the Lord means simply hate evil.
