“It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.” Psalms 118:8
King David was known as ‘A Man After God’s Own Heart’. In troubled times to victorious moments, God is everything for King David. David always took refuge in God and he put all his trust in God alone, “It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.” Psalms 118: 8. Why it is better to trust the Lord than to put confidence in man or somewhere else? The whole answer can be found in Psalms 118 itself.
Firstly, it is better to trust the Lord because He is the One who going to answer our prayer, not any man, “I called on the Lord in distress; the Lord answered me and set me set me free in broad place.” Psalms 118:5. Often you and I can be in difficult situations, without anyone’s help and feeling so depressed. You could be feeling that no one is with you at that time but God is with you to answer your prayers and set you free.
Secondly, why should we trust the Lord instead of others is because He is our all time Helper. People may leave you half way and wash their hands. But our Lord is forever faithful from generation to generation and he will always render His loving hands to you. He will never leave you but He will be a good Helper throughout your life, “The Lord is with me; He is my Helper.” Psalms 118:7. Third reason why you and I should trust the Lord is because He is our strength to face any kind of seasons of life, “The Lord is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation.” Psalms 118:14. Sometimes people’s help and encouraging word only can help us to a certain extent but only the Lord can bring a deep conviction, healing and strength to our inner man through His Holy Spirit. His strength will bring a new sense of hope and purpose to pursue this life no matter what comes in our way. Fourth reason is because, He is our salvation, “I will give You thanks, for you answered me; you have become my salvation.” Psalms 118:21. Salvation means, the redemption of man from bondage of sin and liability of eternal death. Man cannot save you from your sin and eternal death but only the mighty God is able to save you from sin and eternal death. If He can save you from a situation where no man can save you, how much more will He do for you? Trust Him with all your heart. Finally, let me encourage you to put all your trust in Him because He is a MIGHTY GOD, not an ordinary man with many limitations, “You are my God, and I will give you thanks; You are my God, and I will exalt You.” Psalms 118:28. There is no lacking and limitation in God. Nothing and no one could stop Him. He is mighty and great in power. God is Omniscient, Omnipresent and Omnipotent. Dearest, if you place your trust and hope somewhere else, instead on Him, you will walk in regrets and disappointment again and again in this life. He is the answer for your prayers, a great helper, strength, rock of salvation and God Almighty. Trust Him and Him alone.
