“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path”. Psalm 119:105
Since I was a young boy, I have been kind of an adventurous type of guy. I love outdoor activities and enjoy nature. I still remember, when I was in my teenage years, I used to walk in the woods (jungle) at night with some of my friends to explore nature at night. It is really dangerous to walk in the jungle at midnight but I had fun and I cannot forget those moments in my life.
To walk safely in the woods at night my friends and I would use torch light so that we won’t trip over the tree roots or fall into holes. We really need something brighter to show us the way when we walk in the dark places because it is so dark until my friends and I cannot see anything in front of us. To my surprise, with that light I managed to see clearly many things in that darkness. I managed to walk without fear of tripping over tree roots, falling into holes or even stepping on deadly snakes. But the moment we turn off the torch light, we’re bombarded by many fears. So throughout my exploration in the woods on that night, I’ll have my torch light turned on at all times to give me a clear direction and to walk without fear.
My friend, whether you realize it or not, in this life all of us are walking through a dark forest of evil. You and I need a bright light to walk in this dark world. If we could not see what lies in front of us, we might stumble and fall. We might cause pain and distraction in our lives without a clear direction in this journey of life. But the good news is, you and I have the blessed assurance which is our Lord Jesus Christ to lead and guide us each day. If you could listen to Him, you will walk victoriously in this life. You might say, “Benjamin, I do not know how to listen to His voice. So sometimes I don’t know which direction to go.” You may not know how to listen to His voice, but we have the Bible, God’s spoken word in our hands. Often God speaks through His spoken Word, the Bible.
The Word of God can be our greatest light to show us the way ahead so we won’t stumble as we walk. It reveals the entangling roots of false values and philosophies of this world. King David says in the Bible, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path”. Psalm 119:105. When you always read and meditate on the word of God, you will be able to see your way clear enough to stay on the right path. God is able to reveal great things through His Word and His Word can be the greatest light in darkness. In my own life, when I go through the darkest moments of life, His Word is the one that sustains me and to stand on my feet again. Without His assurance and promises in the Bible, surely I couldn’t have made it until this far.
Dearest, reading His Word and meditating on His awesome Word should be our lifestyle. Make a commitment to read His Word and meditate on it. Get some materials to help you do the Bible study and discipline yourself to read His Word every day. If you are struggling in this area, ask the Holy Spirit to give you the strength and the desire to read His Word. The time and the energy that you invest in reading His Word will not be wasted. Remember the Word of God is the brightest light in your life so that you won’t stumble but live a victorious life in Him. Read His Word, be in His Word and do what He says through His Word.
I have found a great treasure,
A treasure that gives hope, peace and joy to my heart.
A treasure of Your spoken Word that gives me the greatest assurance.
Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.
