'Blessed Are Those Who Have Believed In Him'

“Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed” John 20:29

Thomas (called Didymus), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when the Lord Jesus appeared in front of the disciples for the first time after His resurrection. The other disciples told Thomas, “We have seen the Lord!” But doubtfully Thomas said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands, and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe it.” But the Lord was so gracious, and again He appeared in front of His disciples.

This time Thomas was there, and the Lord said to him, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it on my side. Stop doubting and believing.” The moment Thomas saw everything, then only He said, “My Lord and my God!” (Read John 20:19-28). You see, Thomas started to believe after he saw the sight, and he started to confess ‘My Lord and my God’. But the Lord said to him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen, and yet have believed.” John 20:29.

The verse ‘Those who have not seen’ mentioned in the Bible, is actually saying something about you and me. Almost 2000 years ago the Lord proudly mentioned you and me. Even before we existed at that time, the Lord saw you and me as blessed people through His Spiritual eyes because of our believing and faith in Him in these days. The last two parts of this verse “who have not seen and yet have believed” it’s actually a picture of a faithful person who lives a life as what the Word of God says. “We live by faith, not by sight”, 2 Corinthians 5:7. The world may have thousands of questions about God and His existence. The brilliant ones will have thousands of doubts and live a life according to human philosophy.

But one thing that I know is the Lord called you and me blessed people because we believe in Him even though we didn’t see Him physically today. Blessed, or in other words bringing happiness, pleasure and contentment will be the result of putting our trust in the Lord. You will always feel joyful and be contented even if you cannot see the smallest sight of what you have believed in. Dearest, believing or faith is being sure of what we hoped for and certain of what we do not see. As a blessed child of God, stay in your faith and believe the unseen. You are blessed exceedingly abundantly with all of His goodness because of your belief in Him.
